Versatile and adventurous, flutist Daria Binkowski is active in a wide range of musical

performances around the world.


Binkowski has held principal flute positions with the China National Center for the Performing

Arts Orchestra in Beijing and the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Japan, as well as

performing with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and the

Seattle Symphony. They have worked with Ludovic Morlot, Jaap van Zweden, Lorin Maazel, and

Herbert Blomstedt, among others.


Binkowski has not only pursued an active orchestral performance schedule, but is also heavily

involved with the development and performance of contemporary music, and was a founding

member of the Talea Ensemble in New York City. As a contemporary music specialist, they have

performed with the Talea Ensemble, the East Coast Contemporary Ensemble, the Aspen

Contemporary Ensemble, among many others. They have been a featured performer at the

Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, the Newport Jazz Festival, the Beijing

Modern Music Festival and the Audio Art Festival in Krakow. They are a founder of

Figmentum, a toy piano trio based in Southern California, which has performed at the Florida

International Toy Piano Conference, College Music Society Conference, and the San Diego Toy

Piano Festival. 


Binkowski has worked closely with many young composers at festivals and universities across

North America and has given masterclasses in both traditional and contemporary flute

technique at the Harvard University, Clark University, China Conservatory and the University of

Washington, among others. They taught at the University of Washington, where they were the

director of the Modern Music Ensemble (“Inverted Space”). Binkowski also led chamber music

and flute techniques classes, and gave regular lessons to undergraduate and graduate

students.


Binkowski holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and McGill University. When not

performing you can probably find them on a climbing wall, bicycle path, or writing their next short

story.
